Paratext 7.2 Released

August 22, 2011

UBS is pleased to announce the release of Paratext 7.2.

This release fixes many bugs and improves the Send/Receive functionality in ways which should be of great benefit to people with marginal Internet connections or using shared network drives.

  • Reduces the time it takes to receive project data from other team members, especially for projects with several members and in locations where access to the Internet server is slow.
  • All project data is sent and received in a way that allows resuming sending or receiving without restarting the operation from the beginning when a connection is temporarily lost.
  • Paratext clearly shows how much data remains to be transferred and whether actual progress is occurring.
  • Reduced problems with corrupted data when doing a send/receive to shared network drives.

See the Paratext information page for general information about Paratext.

New Paratext users need to complete the Paratext registration form. See About Paratext Registration for more details.

File 1495  When doing Send/Receive's Paratext 7.2. will operate correctly with other computers using 7.1 so it is not necessary to upgrade all the computers on a team at the same time.

If you have any version of 7.1 or 7.2 Beta installed and you have ticked the menu item Help > Automatically Update Paratext, Paratext will attempt to download and install 7.2 automatically starting on September 5th. If you do not want this to happen, untick this menu item.

Please review the Paratext 7.2 Release Notes and Installation Instructions before downloading files or beginning the install process.

About UBS Translation & Publishing Software

Paratext and related tools are a collection of software programs for Windows developed by the United Bible Societies which allow you to input, edit, check, and publish a translation of the Scriptures, based on the original texts (Greek, Hebrew), and modeled on versions in major languages.

A growing body of scripture translation text in the USFM format is the basic unit around which all of the Paratext tools, utilities, and companion programs operate.

Availability and Prerequisites

The Paratext program and its associated text files have been developed by the United Bible Societies for use by its translation and publishing project teams. Paratext is also made available for use by other Bible agencies for whom a formal licensing arrangement with UBS has been established. Persons qualified to use Paratext will include translation consultants, translators, reviewers, translation software trainers/supporters, and those directly engaged in the translation's production. Copyright restrictions, especially those determined by third party copyright holders, require that use and distribution of Paratext be strictly limited to those engaged in the Bible translation and publishing process.

Use of Paratext and associated software requires registration.
